Love Is Blind

And so is Spot. Today the vet's confirmed that Spot is indeed completely blind. I feel bad that it took me nearly 10 weeks to even notice, but I'm also happy because she has adapted so well that I wasn't able to easily tell. They took some blood and are going to run a full blood panel on her just to make sure everything is ok. They are also going to book her an appt with an ophthalmologist just to make sure that it's not something that can be corrected. But the vet is fairly confident that it's something she was just born with.
I am in the process of talking to Derek about possibly adopting her. She needs a good environment where she would be trained and have patient companion dogs to lead her around. Right now he's not sure, but I'll keep working on it. They offered to let us keep her with no adoption fee and not having to reimburse them anything. None of the other puppies have homes yet, and I can't imagine how much harder it would be for her since she's special needs.

4 of the puppies and Gucci will be going to Petsmart on Saturday in hopes of getting adopted. Jack, Minnie, Tipsy, and Hook are all going to be attending. Jack actually has a person of interest that filled out an application for him. So with any luck we may be sans 4 puppies soon (not that I don't love them and wish I could keep them all, but they need good homes)

Tipsy's Recovery

Tipsy is doing very well. She spent 2 nights isolated in a crate, and I had to sleep on the floor next to it to keep her from screaming all night from being alone. Her staples are doing well and her incision is healing. Though she is so active she's already lost a couple of the staples OUCH!

This is Beta's incision. This is how it should look after 1 week. Nicely healed and closed.

This is Tipsy's incision. It's still healing, but doing much better than it was!

Look at all these happy puppies. I love them, and I think they love me too! You wouldn't even know that they all got fixed just a week ago. We have a vet appt tomorrow for Spot and Beaker to make sure that everything is ok with them. But they are happy. I hope they find homes soon! They all got their DHPP shots today, so they are done with their 2nd series.

Emergency Vet

I just got back from the Emergency Vet. All the puppies were doing great after their alterations, but today Tipsy tore her spay incision open so we had to go to the Emergency Vet to get her all stapled up. I'm glad that she's ok, but sad that the 3 people that came in while I was waiting for her had to leave without their dogs :-(

Animal Medical & Surgical Center

Today I took the puppies and Gucci to the vet to be fixed. They all made it ok and I got the phone call that they were ready to be picked up only 3 hours after I dropped them off. I asked if they could hold them over night for me so I could catch up on my cleaning at home. And they said it was fine so they could observe them for a night. The vet's office was so nice I seriously felt like I was under dressed. I felt like I should have been in my Sunday's best or something to go in there. There was all kinds of fountains, original paintings, and bronze statues. I frankly loved it there. Well I guess I'll get the chance to go back tomorrow!

Advanced Class Continues: The Alex Saga

As we continue along our path to perfection...alright not perfection, but the quest for a well behaved dog. Today Alex had her 2nd week of Advanced class, and I must say that it went much better than last week. She walked with me well and allowed Crystal to greet her.

The puppies are on Petfinder.com, the Valley dogs rescue now! Appropriately labeled the Pack-O-9-Tails!

Pimped Out Puppy Room

Oh yeah, with the help of Morris (Derek's dad) we pimped out the puppy room today. We put in coroplast floors, which is going to make the potty clean up so much easier!

There's a swinging door so I can go in and out

CAN YOU STAND THE CUTENESS?!

7 Weeks Old

The puppies are growing like little weeds, and their personalities are coming out more to boot. They love spending time outside, playing in the water and playing with Jackson and Alex. Jackson and Alex are finally grasping the concept that these are in fact puppies and they can play with them. It's quite cute to watch.

The appointment is made to get the puppies and Gucci fixed. July 21st! They will be going to the Animal Medical and Surgical Center in North Scottsdale. It's a long drive but I suppose its worth it for the puppies to be under the care of a 5 Star Vet and Boarding facility. I'll be excited to be without the puppies for a day or two. Then I can catch up on my cleaning.

So far we have no applicants on any of the puppies...I'm hoping we don't have to keep them for TOO much longer. I think 16 weeks is about our maximum...not for patience, but for space. That single room is fine for nine 7-week old puppies now, but come 16 weeks old they are going to be 9 puppies weighing 25 lbs+ EACH!

Well here's the pictures you've been waiting for:

Hook

Beaker

Titan

Jack

Tipsy

Spot

Minnie

Beta

Freckles

5 1/2 Weeks Old

Today I taught my first class at Petsmart, it was a puppy class and only had 2 dogs in it. A 13 week old German Shepherd puppy named Schatzi, and a 17 week old Chocolate Lab named Brownie. We are hoping to get more puppies in the class by next week. They seemed to enjoy the class though, they've already expressed an interest in Intermediate and Advanced. I hope I maintain a high rollover rate. I also sold 2 classes today, so I made a good comeback after being on vacation for a week.

Earlier today I took the puppies to the vet and got them weighed, then I took them home, let them socialize with Jackson and Alex, and took their pictures. Enjoy!
